THE MANY USES OF EMAIL

	I made this site for my science expo project so people could read about how email works and what it is all about.
USES OF EMAIL Both businesses and individuals use email to assist them with efficient communications.  Business uses include checking on orders from vendors, letting customers know about sales, and telling employees about meetings and policies.  Personal uses are everything from birthday greetings and dinner invitations to job applications.  In general, email is faster, less expensive, and more convenient than other methods for many many types of communications, and that is a good thing.
The uses of email seem so obvious to us today, but most business and people even just 15 years ago were NOT using it.  Here's a list of how some things USED to be done compared to how they are done now.   BEFORE EMAIL NOW Check an Order (at least 1 phone call, maybe 3 or 4) Go to the rolodex and look up the number for the company.  Pick up the telephone, dial the number, talk to the receptionist, leave a message for the salesman.  Later, answer a return phone call from the salesman, and find out if the order is done, and when it's shipping. check for the email order confirmation in your inbox Check Receipt of an Order (at least 1 phone call, maybe 3 or 4) Go to the rolodex and look up the number for the shipping company.  Pick up the telephone, dial the number, talk to the receptionist, tell them the tracking number, find out if it arrived and who signed for it.  Then, call the company who was receiving it, and leave a message.  Later, answer a return phone call, and find out if the order was received by the person who needed it. copy-paste the tracking number from UPS or FedEx email into a web form Converse with a Friend or Relative Overseas  occasional short expensive phone calls have daily family email chats Find a Daily Stock Price Go buy a hard copy newspaper, open to the back, look up the ticker symbol in the alphabetized list check your inbox for a daily price
